This service provides a business solution which operates on more than one computer.

It consists of two major components; a server component which is reponsible for handling input from and output to the client component. The server component, which may itself be distributed over a number of computers, manages the data content of the application and controls multiple accesses to that data in orderly transactions.

Client/Server solutions are used where simultaneous, real-time access to information is required by more than one user.

Solutions from any business area may be used in this environment but it might be suited, primarily, to a workgroup environment where the group needs may be statisfied by connection of all workstations on a L(ocal) A(rea) N(etwork) and there is a desire to limit cost of investment in support of we technologies.

In hardware terms; a computer which acts as the workgroup server, a number of computer to act as client terminals, a network hub, network control cards and cabling to provide the LAN. In software terms; a server component, a copy of a client component per workstation and a copy of a Data Resource Manager installed on the server.
