When The Role The Output
July 2000 to January 2001 Client-Server Application Development The collaboration aimed to design and develop procedures to contribute to the production of an application which provides I(ndependant) F(inancial) A(dvisors) with a Personal Finance Quotation System.

Our principal brief was to provide procedures which transformed data, with partial encryption, from SQL Server database to MS Access databases and procedures which would accomplish the construction, distribution and installation of a CD-ROM version of the application.

The first of these duties involved the production of a set of SQL Server DTS packages to move, encrypt, compact and re-index data and transform stored procedures. Encryption algorithms and indexing routines were provided by Visual Basic modules included as Process Tasks.

The latter task was accomplished by constructing a distribution package written in InstallShield Script (a C-language derivative) with additional embedded dialogs produced using MS Visual C++.

Subsequently we were involved in the production and testing of a number of XML/SQL Server Data broker classes designed as reusable modules to be employed in message handling by varieties of the IFA Quotation System running from CD-ROM Desktop/Laptop, the company web site or the call centre intranet, the contribution of a number of ActiveX controls for the CD-ROM project and the production of database tables and code to accomplish profiling of customers' insurance requirements.
