| When | The Role | The Output | |
| September 1984 - October 1985 | Consultant to ICL - Inland Revenue collaboration |
Design, implementation and testing of Advanced CAFS
Option (ACO) software product for ICL product line. The product enhances the performance of CAFS units on very large indexed-sequential files. |
|
| November 1985 - July 1987 | consultancy to ICL Defence Technology Centre | Implementation of VME High Security Option (HSO)
product. Control of system test fault report resolution and support of QE. Management of the system test environment. Responsibility for obtaining the Non-regression certificate and Field Validation Certificate prior to the first release of the product and for production of the Product Installation Note |
|
| October 1987 - March 1989 | consultancy to ICL - Inland Revenue collaboration | Design of a product which provides a centralised
control of software distribution and installation over a network of VME
systems. The development required an enabling enhancement to the VME BBUILD product to give more timely and precise error reporting. Inspection of all code produced to our design and supervision of implementation and unit testing. Production of repairs. Cconstruction and release of the product to the Field Trial at IR, Telford and for on-going support of that field trial |
|
| 1992 to 1997 | Team Leadership | Porting and developing UNIX applications on ICL
OpenVME platforms. FlexLM: a licence management product. This delivers a set of libraries providing an API to be used by software to be licensed and an authorising daemon executable. It operates as a client-server architecture and utilises socket interfaces for inter-process communication. ICL TeamOFFICE: An office automation suite consisting of TeamMAIL, TeamCALENDAR, TeamFORUM (a bulletin-board/chat application) and TeamLIBRARY (a document store application). This suite provided relational database storage for each of the component applications and access to each database was from a Windows client via listening server processes which forked images to handle the transactions. Provision of add-ons and add-ins and performance enhancements to the ported application. Development of POP3/SMTP/NAME server applications to allow 'Internet Mail' access to TeamMAIL servers running under Unix and NT. |
|
| 1997 to 1998 | Architect for the migration of legacy mail services to NT | Responsibily for the support of existing TeamOFFICE
services on VME-X (X/Open SVR4 branded Unix) nodes both internal and with
external customers and for design and development of processes and packages to
facilitate the migration of such services firstly to TeamOFFICE services on NT
systems and then to MS Exchange Server services.

|
| 1998 to 1999 | Product Evaluation Consultancy | Installation, testing and performance evaluation of
eCommerce packages on ICL Millennium systems with the aim of providing a
portfolio for XtraServer/Trimetra systems. This covered two packages. The first was a catalogue browser/order management product (ECx) developed by Electronic Business Systems on Compaq systems under NT. This required the building of an NT Server system on an ICL XtraServer ccomplete with installation of IIS, MS Scripting Library and Perl 5 to provide an operational base for evaluation, to take the package and sample data and to build the application and its database on the XtraServer, to demonstrate its viability and report performance characteristics and malfunctions. The second package evaluated was Microsoft's MCIS product. The work on this package consisted of evaluating the ICL Trimetra UNS system performance capabilities for use as a Site Server and in demonstrating the B2B and B2C capabilities of the package. |
|
| February 1999 to June 1999 | Preferred Supplier | Design development and deployment of a package to
allow migration of TeamWARE Library documents to MS Exchange Server folders.
(TeamWARE Library is a client-server application of the ICL TeamWARE family
which provides a document management service).
The package consists of a 'requester' desktop application, which allows a user to select material for migration and a 'broker' server application, which allows the Exchange Server administrator to perform the extraction and migration. |
