The initial brief was to rectify known problems in the data capture procedures and the web-based report and reconciliation procedures. Subsequently we progressed to redevelopment of the web pages to significantly enhance the performance characteristics.
The work on the data capture routines involved strategic redevelopment and redeployment of SQL Server database triggers and recoding of the DLL and EXE projects written in Visual Basic.
The rework of the report and reconciliation code required the correction of known problems in ASP and provision of missing facilities<
Performance enhancements were achieved by database table redesign, further strategic redeployment of triggers and the transformation of embedded SQL text into database stored procedures and the recoding of multi-nested views as correlated subqueries likewise registered as stored procedures.
To further enhance performance we designed and implemented a class model of the application to facilitate restructuring it as a 3-tier solution and migrated it to a Windows 2000 environment.
We reworked the data capture procedures to provide interactive control by 'import managers' utilising ASP to schedule data import, validation and report production accomplished by SQL Server Agent JobServer jobs. As an integral part of this latter activity we produced external User Defined Functions, coded in VC++, to interface to Cognos Impromptu to provide data encryption/decryption functions for dynamic data manipulation of Web report contents.
